NYC, Gentxt Grant Computers for Partner Student Councils

The National Youth Commission, in partnership with Globe Gentxt, conducts a series of leadership forum in schools across the country aimed at highlighting the major role of youth in nation building.

Through the NYC’s Youth Information Center Program, Gentxt is giving away computers to Participating schools. The NYC is looking for youth partners that may help in the information dissemination of its programs. Youth partners will be coming from the Office of Student Affairs and Student Councils of the respective schools. Their duties and responsibilities will be to relay information about youth activities within the campuses around the area. More

 
 
 
NYC Urges Youth Groups to Act on RH Awareness

The National Youth Commission sees the value of youth organizations serving as agents in educating our youth, especially in reproductive health awareness.

According to the State of the Philippine Population Report (2nd issue) of the Commission on Population, there is a growing incidence of premarital sex among youth, from 18% in 1994 to around 23% in 2002, based on the Young Adult Fertility Study or YAFS. A minor redeeming factor may be that premarital sex is more prevalent among older youth (ages 20-27). More

 
 
 
NYC Keeps the EDSA Spirit Alive

The National Youth Commission keeps the EDSA spirit alive by spurring youth volunteers to do their role in community and nation building through the Search for the Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations (TAYO) Awards, a venue for “best practices” sharing.

The TAYO aims to recognize, reward and encourage contributions made by groups of young Filipinos, who are at least 15 to 30 years old. This will be accomplished by identifying youth organizations, clubs and societies with well-crafted, highly applicable and effective programs. More

 
 
 
Youth Agency in Search of Youth Ambassador

The National Youth Commission (NYC) is searching for 28 youth delegates to represent the country in the 31st Ship for Southeast Asian Youth Program (SSEAYP) to be held in seven ASEAN countries and Japan.

SSEAYP is a youth cultural exchange program sponsored by the Japanese Government in cooperation with the ASEAN member countries. Delegates will visit the participating countries on board the luxury ship Nippon Maru, and get involved in various activities like educational tours, courtesy calls, interaction with local youth and homestay program. Fake NYC Employee Charged

The Municipal Trial Court of Rosario, Cavite recently found guilty beyond reasonable doubt, Mark Anthony Velarde for usurpation of authority after misrepresenting the National Youth Commission (NYC).

Velarde was sentenced for six months and one day because of his misrepresentation as a staff of the NYC. He was found to have solicited twenty thousand pesos (P20,0000) from Renan Abutan, Sangguiang Kabataan President of Rosario, Cavite. The funds according to Velarde was for registration of SK’s and out of school youth for an activity to be held in the said locality. The accused also alleged that he is the regional representative of the NYC in Cavite. More

 
 


TAYO Search Now on Its Second Run

The National Youth Commission (NYC) and the Office of Senator Kiko Pangilinan recently launched this year's search for the Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations (TAYO) at My Cinema in Greenbelt 3 at the Ayala Center in Makati City.

NYC Chairman Bam Aquino expressed optimism that this year's crop will once again inspire enthusiasm among our youth, making them realize that there are a lot of possible avenues to direct their idealism and positive energies. More

 
 
 

Great@8!: Responding to Challenges through Youth Volunteerism

In a large sense, our country is what we make of our youth.
