NYC Keeps the EDSA Spirit Alive
The National Youth Commission keeps the EDSA spirit alive by spurring youth volunteers to do their role in community and nation building through the Search for the Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations (TAYO) Awards, a venue for “best practices” sharing.
The TAYO aims to recognize, reward and encourage contributions made by groups of young Filipinos, who are at least 15 to 30 years old. This will be accomplished by identifying youth organizations, clubs and societies with well-crafted, highly applicable and effective programs.
“With the TAYO Awards, we hope to be able to breed a stronger critical mass of youth leaders and youth organizations all over the country who will commit their highest aspirations as well as their energies to a better quality of life of the people in their communities,” NYC Chairman Paolo Benigno “Bam” Aquino emphasized.
The organization will be judged on the basis of a recent project or program that created an impact on the community and which best reflects the efforts of the youth sector towards nation building. A project entry begun in January 2003 may qualify. All project entries must have been completed by the deadline of submission of requirements. For continuing projects, a major portion should have been undertaken by the end of the deadline set on March 31, 2004.
The TAYO winners will receive a grant amounting to 50,000 pesos and a plaque of commendation to be awarded by the President in Malacañang by June 2004.
There are several categories from which a project entry could be classified, including: business, livelihood and entrepreneurship; capability building and education; communications and media; community development; culture and the arts; environmental protection and conservation; information technology; and public health.
