Fake NYC Employee Charged

The Municipal Trial Court of Rosario, Cavite recently found guilty beyond reasonable doubt, Mark Anthony Velarde for usurpation of authority after misrepresenting the National Youth Commission (NYC).

Velarde was sentenced for six months and one day because of his misrepresentation as a staff of the NYC. He was found to have solicited twenty thousand pesos (P20,0000) from Renan Abutan, Sangguiang Kabataan President of Rosario, Cavite. The funds according to Velarde was for registration of SK’s and out of school youth for an activity to be held in the said locality. The accused also alleged that he is the regional representative of the NYC in Cavite.

The victim, SK President Renan Abutan, became suspicious because of the large amount being asked by Velarde. He called the national office of the NYC to check about Velarde . The NYC relayed to him that no such fees were being collected nor was Mr. Velarde employed in the NYC.Charges were filed by the NYC and SK president Renan Abutan . Due to the diligence of the complaints , the court presided by judge Rita E. Quizon found Mark Velarde guilty.

According to the Chairman of the National Youth Commission, Paolo Benigno A. Aquino IV, this incident should serve as a warning to those unscrupulous individuals or organizations that would use the NYC for their own personal interest.
