THE MEDIUM-TERM YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
PLAN (MTYDP)
2005-2009

In line with its function to formulate a national framework for youth development, the NYC is in the midst of preparations to come up with the Medium Term Youth Development Plan for 2005-2009. The Plan will identify indicators for program implementation, veering away from the broad strokes approach.

Later this year, we will be conducting a series of consultations with the youth sub-sectors, as well as program partners for their inputs on a draft plan done together with youth sector experts and youth program implementers.

The MTYDP serves as a guide for government agencies to utilize in the proposal or implementation of youth-related programs.

BANG! Anti-Drug Campaign

This is a new concept in drug abuse prevention focusing on youth peer (barkada) groups. It inculcates among barkada members the value of the barkada in drug abuse prevention. This advocacy gives emphasis on the ability of the barkada to create an alternative high, and become each other’s peer counselor to dissuade their friends from doing drugs.

Special Drug Education Centers

In cooperation with the Department of Social Welfare and Development, by virtue of Republic Act 9125, which creates special drug education centers. NYC currently plays a role in ensuring that these centers provide some worthwhile activities for its clientele, but its final goal is the establishment of a socialized rehabilitation program in these centers, to cement the demand reduction efforts.

The minimum requirements for the implementation of these centers lie with the local DSWD offices. These offices can offer counseling and referrals, but work is still being done to lobby for the creation of structures that will serve as centers.
