THE MEDIUM-TERM YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
PLAN (MTYDP)
2005-2009

The 2005-2010 Medium Term Youth Development Plan (MTYDP) is a product of desk reviews and series of consultations on young Filipino's issues and concerns with representatives of youth and youth serving organizations. The youth's perception on issues, (outlined in Youth Attributes, Participation and Service Providers' or YAPS), that affect them have served as important inputs in crafting the MTYDP.

The MTYDP serves as a guiding framework for youth development and empowerment. It outlines steps that will help concretize what the youth themselves desire. The plan is abroad guide for action, young Filipinos play a very important role in ensuring that the recommended policies, programs, and courses of actions are carried out.

Education
The quality of and access to education must be improved, and students should be empowered to
participate actively inside and outside the school.

Adolescent and Youth Health Development Advocacies

NYC strives to educate the youth on issues concerning reproductive health and HIV awareness by the accreditation of legitimate non-government organizations engaged in training youth in their localities.

Youth Smoking Prevention Bill (R.A. 9211)

The new law prohibits the purchase and sale of cigarettes to persons below 18 years old. The law also bans public smoking in “centers of youth activity such as playschools, preparatory schools, elementary schools, high schools, colleges and universities, youth hostels and recreational facilities for persons under 18 yrs. Anti-Drug Advocacy

This is a new concept in drug abuse prevention focusing on youth peer (barkada) groups. It inculcates among barkada members the value of the barkada in drug abuse prevention. This advocacy gives emphasis on the ability of the barkada to create an alternative high, and become each other’s peer counselor to dissuade their friends from doing drugs.
