In our presentation/updating re MYP and LYDC updates with 5th NYP Pres Steve before the COmmissioner's Meeting last Thursday, Dec. 8 10 am, here are some of the points:
- Steve asked NYC re plans for the 6th NYP in view of the "preparation" being done by 5th NYP based in Visayas for Bacolod to be the venue; and if there is a taskforce of NYC, can NYP be part of it (January is the NYC Planning session daw for 6th NYP)
- re level of participation in 6th NYP, steve asked if we could be part of the National ORganizing Committee. c/o Jeng, Program Division, NYC. Chair Bam aquino responded it is yet premature to discuss said agenda; cel aves suggested having an IRR visavis NYP to institutionalize taskforcing as provided by law
- re localization of the MTYDP (wch 5th NYP are involved in); Steve asked for form! al updates in the regional monitoring groups and if NYPAA could be made further part of the localization. - Steve asked for a table for NYPAA at the NYC where volunteers or GIP can facilitate communications and transactions related to NYP c/o LUch, NYC
- Gutoc acknowledged the past relationship of NYP to NYC (Time of AMina) as dialogic ; she acknowledged the invitation of Princess Abante to the COmmissioner's meeting ; cited the donations to the MYP by Camid, Abante, Goyena and Nalupta
- Nalupta asked if chacha could be discussed at the MYP; he also asked who was Kaloy Manlupig ; he also asked if there are anti-government speakers to which Bam said there is freedom of _expression; I cited there are plurality of views in the group; Steve also mentioned the same.

THE FULFILLED DREAM!

By: Robin Charles O. Ramos, the 1st MYLP Newsletter Editor In Chief

NINETY FIVE active and energetic YOUNG LEADERS consisting of past and present Mindanaoan members of the National Youth Parliament and the different youth sectors of Mindanao such as Sangguniang Kabataan, campus – based organization, out-of-school youth and other organizations fulfilled the dream of the National Youth Parliament Alumni Association of Mindanao in convening the 1st Mindanao Young Leaders’ Parliament on December 26-28,2005 at Balay Mindanaw Peace Center, Upper Bulua, Cagayan de Oro City.

Just a decade since the 1st National Youth Parliament was convened by the National Youth Commission until the 5th batch today, NYPAA Mindanao struggles a lot in pursuing its mere dream to have a convention of young leaders to discuss youth agenda, the issues and concerns, the situation of the youth in Mindanao. Hearing the voices of the youth came into reality as Ms. Samira Gutoc-Tomawis, NYPAA Mindanao Chairperson spearheaded the 1st MYLP. It is not totally a daydream, but it is really a fulfilled dream – a reality that the youth in Mindanao responded the call of service – the spirit of volunteerism was instilled in our hearts and minds as we commit ourselves to be part of the organization.

The 3 day convention of the 1st MYLP, it is not only the ratification of the by-laws of the MYLP is the issue and concern of the youth in Mindanao but to know and be aware of what is the present condition or situation of Mindanao today especially the youth – who are struggling to let their voices be heard and recognized in the National level. We all know that “Mindanao is the richest but certainly the poorest”, “the most organized but yet the most powerless”. Is it not confusing? Certainly it is… but that is the real situation that we are facing right now. “Yet there is hope… amidst poverty, powerlessness, marginalization and unpeace, people and communities continue to strive and win small victories”, a statement quoted from Mr. Charlito Manlupig, the President of Balaw Mindanao Foundation, Inc. during his talk about the situation in Mindanao.

Let us be united in one common goal and that is, to take action in our locality and broaden our minds to think globally. Making a difference within us is the sole solution in order to fix the image of our dear Mindanao.

MYLP members and alumni we are the voice of the youth in Mindanao, let us be in one, let us join our forces even if we are from different culture, we have one dream and common goal. Rise up, and let us stand together in our dear fatherland, let us take an action and pave the way through peace, justice and development. Let our voices be heard, let us fight for our rights, spread our voices and let us joined our hands together as we fulfill our dreams for our NEW MINDANAO.
