ATTENTION MEMBERS:
Help me to campaign this Youth Program to help promote the importance of the Youth here in Philippines
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Our Comprehensive Program of the Youth modell can be tailored to meet the needs of youth at risk of dropping out of school, becoming involved in the criminal justice system, engaging in violent behavior, or becoming a teenage parent. Our direct service youth programs work toward the following outcomes:
>Decrease youth involvement in gangs, violence, and teen sexual activity.
>Support the development of goal-directed behavior.
>Decrease dropping out from school
> Increase school attendance.
>Increase self worth and self-esteem of participants.
>Increase sense of family, peer and community support.
>Foster a shift in attitude/behavior from that of being a victim, to one of taking responsible actions.
>Our yearlong programs provide youth with the following:
Residential Intensive – At the start of the program youths, staff and mentors embark on a 3 to 4 day residential retreat to a campsite in the mountains. It is a safe and nurturing environment in which the youth can share their fears and secrets, recognize they cannot improve their current situation on their own and open up to the possibility of being supported. The attendees participate in a series of activities that may include a daily morning run, course room dialogue, a low ropes challenge course.
Monthly Youth Mentors – Workshop sessions are designed to help youth develop new patterns of behavior and thinking. Specifically, they serve to reinforce and deepen understanding of the lessons introduced during the Residential Intensive and help participants integrate and apply what they learned to their personal projects, family and community relationships.
One-to-One Mentors – Committed Partner Mentors serve to assist young people by reinforcing their goals and vision, overcome obstacles and identify resources and solutions. The youth and their Committed Partner Mentors interact for one to four hours each week through phone conferences and bi-weekly meetings. Committed Partner Mentors also attend youth workshops.
Individual Projects – A Personal Project is the focus of each young persons work. (Committed Partner Mentors also work on Personal Projects of their own.) Young people determine their personal projects that usually deal with education, relationships or work.
Parent Workshops and Family Activities – A vital goal of our programs is to solicit the involvement and commitment of the parents in support of their children and to strengthen family relationships. To support this process we provide opportunities throughout the year for parents to learn about and become involved in their children’s work and develop new parent skills and methods of communication. Our ultimate aim is to create a partnership between parents and their children in support of the young person’s academic, personal and professional goals.
Completion Ceremony – At the end of the program, youth, peers, mentors, family and friends come together to witness and acknowledge their remarkable achievements.
