The Southeast Asian Games is the largest and most significant multi-sport event in the region and is held every two years to enable athletes to meet in friendly competition as well as to foster goodwill, friendship and solidarity, in alignment with the aims and aspirations of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
The SEA Games originated from the SEAP (South East Asian Peninsular) Games which were inaugurated in Thailand in 1959, with just six participating countries- Burma (Myanmar), Laos, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. The SEAP was conceptualized by Laung Sukhumnaipradit, the then Vice-President of the Thailand Olympic Committee. He firmly believed that a regional sports event, similar to the Asian Games or the Olympic Games, will help promote cooperation, understanding and relations among countries in the region. His efforts were rewarded after two years of lobbying.
The SEAP Games continued to be held biennially until the Philippines and Indonesia joined the Games which was then renamed SEA Games at its 9th meet in Malaysia in 1977, with the admission of Brunei Darussalam as well. The name has since been officially adopted and the Games has now become the most important sports event of the region. Memberships of SEA Games already increased to ten with Cambodia being the last member.
MISSION: To strengthen political, economic, and social ties with the countries of the region.
VISION:
To develop tourism and increase revenue earnings.
To prepare itself to organize and host bigger events like The Asian Games and The Olympic Games.

We are having some difficulty in the deployment of volunteers for NCR events due to the much less number of volunteers required by the committees and sports associations compared to the previously required number. But our team is currently devising ways to accommodate the remaining volunteers.
We might be needing additional support groups for each venue to serve as food handlers, assistants, and as subsitutes in case some volunteers fail to appear in the venues.
Also, if some of you can visit our office, you can assist our teams in the printing of IDs and preparation of kits. Call us at 781-2323 781-1613 loc 118 and look for Liza.
Please take note that we are not accepting new applicants anymore. We will only entertain those who have submitted their applications.
In the Opening Ceremonies on November 27 at the Luneta, we encourage youth organizations to be there to watch this historical event. We will be setting up a booth for NYC and everyone is welcomed to go there. Program starts @ 5PM but the NYC booth will be open as early as 1PM.
Groups can bring streamers to be identified and members can wear their respective organization shirts. The opening ceremonies committee is working to beat the world record for the most number of crowd in a sports gathering. So be there and be counted.

We regret to inform those who have been not called to report for the SEA Games that you have not been pre-selected in the volunteers program. However, we want to make it clear that you were not admitted not because of lack of skills or background but due to your availability. The sports associations and committees required for FULL-TIME volunteers that's why we chose those who signified for full-time positions.
Also, we have a problem with some sports associations and committees because they were downsizing their volunteer requirements on the last minute. Supposedly, we were to gather a total of 8,000 volunteers for NCR but the volunteer requirement was reduced to only 2,000 a few weeks before the games. I believe a lot of volunteer applicants are affected with this concern and in behalf of the Volunteers Committee under NYC, I would like to apologize for this inconvenience. We, in the committee, were likewise surprised with the sudden downsizing of the number of volunteers. As an example, one event required for 80 volunteers last august but called just last week to inform us that they will only need 10. This is just one of the many problems we face each day as the event nears.
Rest assured, you will still be in our volunteer database and we look forward to working with you in the future. We hope for your understanding on this matter.
Furthermore, we would like to invite you to participate in the Opening Ceremonies on 27 November 2005 in Luneta. Martsa ng mga Bayani starts at 3PM where all of us are required to wear red shirts and use face paints. In the parade, you can bring your organization's streamers. For more details, you can contact us at 781-1613, 781-1163, 781-2323 and look for:

To be honest this is exactly how untidy we operate things in the Philippines and there was even reports that volunteers including security personnel are not being given what is promised of them. Regarding the requirements there was nothing mentioned in there as the needed for FULL-TIME VOlunteers... how can you expect someone to volunteer full time if there was a lack of funds for this event?
Anyway good luck and hopefully we improve the way we do and organize things.... let's change our ways.

Volunteers for security, liaison, and protocol committees are not under the NYC. They are operated by their respective committees. Also, you better verify those reports first. Even those written on the papers are not all true. However, I agree with what you said on improving the system.
Applications were open to both full-time and part-time volunteers. But as I've said, sudden changes were made by some sports associations and committees. Explanation for such changes is beyond my knowledge right now.
