Dumarami na ang foreign series sa major networks natin. Dati it started with latino dramas, then tsinovelanas, and now, meron pang koreanovelas.

Minsan tuloy, i start to sympathize with pinoy artists (kahit na a lot of pinoy telenovela actors aren't really good), kasi instead na sa kanila mapunta ung revenue, sa ibang bansa pa.

Bakit kaya hit ang foreign series sa tin?

* somebody said it's cheaper (based on the networks' costs) kasi they wouldn't have to pay the actors, writers etc separately. Bibilhin ung project as a whole kasi.

* we learn from different cultures, and are amused when we see similarities with our culture.

* the stories are different from what we usually see filipino dramas (alam nyo na - merong nawawalang anak/parent, napalitan na anak, diary o kwintas na magrereveal ng secrets, iyaking bida, sterotypically bad na kontrabida, nagkaka-amnesia at bumabalik ang memory kapag nauntog - hay, so much can be said about pinoy dramas that i am doing an amusing compilation on how to's in making a typical pinoy drama)

* the characters are not stereotypes, such as if the character is the hero/ine, he/she is totally good, and if contrabida naman, sobrang bad naman(u know, as if pinanganak na bad ung tao - seldom do we see what is the foundation for the characters.

* in foreign dramas, since ang mga bida, hindi masyado iyakin, at hindi extremely good, we see their hilarious sides - these characters can be social climbers, man/woman haters, liars, etc - things people probably can't accept if these are in filipino telenovelas kahit funny pa ang portrayal. Sa pinoy movies, pwede pa.

* ang foreign teleseries, alam natin meron katapusan ang story. first, because binili yun ng station na finished na yung project. so alam ng station kung ilang days ang run ng series.

second, kasi, hindi yun pinipilit pahabain. sa pinas kasi, pahahabain ng husto ang story kapag maganda ang ratings - they can last for a year, tapos magkakaroon pa ng season 2. In the end, wala nang sense ang kwento.

Tama ka sa lahat ng obserbasyon mo at ang pinakahindi maalis ay ang pagpapahaba ng series pero sa totoo lang hindi lang naman sa atin uso yan kundi sa lahat ng bansa maging sa US. Pansinin nyo na lang yung 24, Friends, Sex and the City di ba humahaba yun :P

u have a point there. i didn't notice that. cguro kasi, the writers for those series really exert effort in developing the character and the story. kaya kahit the show has been running for several years, hindi dragging.

i'd like to say filipino writers are good. un nga lang, minsan they don't show what they've got. filipino telenovela scripts are sometimes just being recycled. hindi nga lang telenovelas, pati comedy scripts and short tv features din. what's been said and done before are just re-delivered by a different ensemble of actors.

cguro kasi sa pinas, tv shows are being watched because of the actors/actresses being showcased. in the US, the actors/actresses will draw viewers when launching a new show. pero that will not be enough to keep the audience glued to their tv screens. it has to have a good script and screenplay. or else, it's going to be a flop.

Malaki ang epekto ng kultura at panlasa ng mga manonood sa paggawa ng mga bagong palabas.. kaya siguro ganito ang mga palabas ay sapagkat mas maraming porsyento ng mamamayang Pilipino ang mahilig sa mga ganitong uri ng palabas :)
