Realizing the increasing and alarming level of drug abuse in the country that greatly affects the youth sector, the National Youth Commission created the Anti- Drug Abuse Campaign Program in November 1998 to generate awareness and motivate the youth to cooperate with the efforts of the government. The program, a coordinative undertaking with other government and non-government agencies, focuses on preventive education, training and community information activities in support of the MAMAMAYANG AYAW SA DROGA (MAD) MOVEMENT of the National Drug Enforcement and Preventive Center of the Philippines of the Philippine National Police, through the ALYANSA ng KABATAAN KONTRA DROGA. Rallying on its mandate as stated under RA 8044 and answering the issues and strategies in the Medium Term Youth Development Plan (MTYDP), the two-year old program has catered to 8,428 youth beneficiaries all over the country through its series of advocacy campaigns, youth mobilizations, disseminators' training and preventive education program and regional and provincial motorcade launchings. The program is continuously conceptualizing activities and projects to effectively reach out to the grassroots level and answer to the call of the Estrada Administration for a drug-free Philippines.
