Commissioner Benjie S. Oliva is an agriculturist by profession. He graduated the degree in Agriculture as Cum laude and as a DOST Scholar at the Central Visayas State College of Agriculture, Forestry and Technology, Main Campus, Bilar, Bohol.
Before he became a distinguished young leader of Bohol and in the Visayas, he started his youth causes during his high school days with the Campus Ministry - Student Catholic Action (CM-SCA) and Parish Youth Ministry of the Diocese of Tagbilaran. His active involvement in the different programs, formations and projects in the Diocesan Commission on Youth of the Diocese of Tagbilaran has prepared him for greater responsibilities in the community and in the government.
In his college days, he became Federated President of the Supreme Student Government of the CVSCAFT System and Member of its powerful Board of Trustees after having been elected by the other four SSG Presidents of the other campuses. It was then he revived the Bohol Alliance of Student Councils where he was elected as its President and Chairman. It was also the same year when he was elected as PYAP Provincial President.
He started his career in Government service serving both the legislative and executive branches of the Provincial Government of Bohol. First as Committee Secretary at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Bohol from May 2002 up to December 2003 and later as Legislative Staff Assistant from January 2004 – September 2005. He later joined the executive office in October 2005 – December 2005 as Information Officer.
Commissioner Oliva is an active officer and member of various organizations. To name some: Vice Chairman of the CM-SCA Diocesan Council, Council Member of the Parish Youth Ministry Diocesan Council, Secretary General of the Bohol Youth for Sustainable Development, Executive Vice President of the Behind the Clouds Junior Jaycees, Member of the Youth for Christ, Member of the Knights of Rizal - Bohol Chapter and Member of the Sigma Rho Fraternity.
At the NYC, he headed the committee on Localization and Value Integration. He sits as alternate of NYC Chairman Richard Alvin Nalupta in the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Council and Chairs the National Organizing Committee for this year's 6 th National Youth Parliament.
Commissioner Oliva's dedicated service has been recognized here and elsewhere. He is a recipient of the following awards and citations; Ten Outstanding Students of Region VII in 2002 by RFM Foundation, CHED and Rotary Club and Outstanding Catigbianon in 2000 by the Association of Catigbianon's in Luzon and the Municipality of Catigbian . Leadership Excellence Award from the Philippine Jaycees, Inc. and others. Commissioner Oliva was born in Lumbayao, Aloran, Misamis Occidental
