2009 Gwangju Asian Human Rights Folk School Background: The Gwangju Asian Human Rights Folk School (GAHRFS) aims to contribute to the development of democracy and human rights throughout Asia. This event serves as a venue to learn and experience the history and development process of human rights and democracy in Korea. The Folk School can also be a venue for exchange and network for human rights activists. Likewise, one of the perks of attending the Folk School i s the opportunity to be endorsed for a scholarship. Venue and Date: The event will be held in Republic of Korea, from August 30 to September 19, 2009. Qualification: · Filipino citizen · has been working for human rights, peace and democracy; Applican ts will be selected based on the following categories: - Junior Staff Positions (with 2-5 years experience) - Middle Management/Advisory Positions (with 5-15 years experience) - Senior/Director (with more than 15 years experience) (Note: The selection committee may change your status if they believe you have entered under the wrong category (for example, if you apply as a senior but have less than 15 years experience). · of good moral character · physically and mentally fit to travel · preferably a first time traveler; former recipients of NYC funded international programs from August 30, 2008 to August 30, 2009 are disqualified to apply · must have a valid passport u ntil at least six (6) months after the date of the departure for the program; Applicants without any passport details shall not be considered. Expenses: The Organizer, May 18 Memorial Foundation will cover the following expenses: · Visa fees · Internati onal airfare to Korea · Transportation in Korea · NOTE: Internal airfares (within the country) will be covered if you can prove that the flight is necessary The following expenses will NOT be covered: · Internal transportation (within the country) (for exa mple, to the airport or to the embassy) · Official fees other than visa fees (for example, travel tax) Application: Interested applicants should fill up the attached application form. Applicants are advised to read carefully the guidelines and the rules in order for their application to be considered. If applicants later decide not to come to the Folk School (cancels their application) after they have been selected, the Organizer will not accept any applications from their organizations for three years.
