The ASEAN University Student Conference 2009
Bandung, Indonesia
May 21-24, 2009
PURPOSE
The ASEAN is now entering the phase of achieving an ASEAN Community by 2015. There are a lot of challenges in dealing with the deepening of ASEAN integration. One of the crucial challenges is enriching and preserving cultural heritage. The reality is that the public at large, including the youth, is less attentive about their own culture. The youth are more familiar with and aware of global contemporary rather than traditional culture.
Indonesia is pleased to organize the ASEAN University Student Conference 2009 with a view to enrich and preserve cultural heritage across ASEAN member states. The main focus of the Conference would be the role of youth to enrich and preserve cultural heritage.
The conference on the topic of “How Youth could play an important role in enriching and preserving our cultural heritage” will be organized as a space for students and youths to share knowledge, ideas, experiences, and understanding on how to enrich and preserve cultural heritage in their daily lives. Participants will further have a chance to draft a Joint Statement on “The voice of ASEAN youth to enrich and preserve cultural heritage in daily life” which will be submitted to the appropriate ASEAN community.
PARTICIPATION
All nominated students will participate in group activities, which aims to promote friendship and exchange knowledge and experiences. They will have a group discussion and prepare for the following activities:
