2008 Gwangju Asian Human Rights Folk School The May 18 Memorial Foundation is announcing the application for the 2008 Gwangju Asian Human Rights Folk School which aims to contribute to the development of democracy and human rights throughout Asia . Twenty-five (25) participants will be selected from among applicants from all over Asia who have been working for human rights, peace and democracy. They will be given an opportunity to learn and experience the history and development process of human rights and democracy in South Korea . The folk school will also serve as an opportunity for participants to exchange and network with other human rights activists. One of the perks of attending the folk school is the opportunity to be endorsed for a scholarship. Applicants should be working in an NGO and should have at least 2 years of experience for the junior level and at least 18 years old. There are other twol levels – middle managers (supervisory position) and senior (age and experience). The May 18 Memorial Foundation will pay for the roundtrip flight ticket, food/board and accommodation expenses of all successful participants (their counterpart is their visa fee, local/domestic travel from their home – airport, travel/airport taxes and other local expenses).
