44th Youth in Community Action

Background:

The Korean Commission for UNESCO (KNCU) is organizing the 44 th Youth in Community Action (YiCA) with the theme “Vision, Value, and Action for Sustainable Community!”. Under this theme, the event will focus on the role that youth can play in sustainable development.

The event will allow young people from different national, ethnic, cultural, religious and socio-economic backgrounds to share vision and values through field projects that tackle global and local issues and intercultural exchanges.

Venue and Date:

The event will be held in Republic of Korea , from July 22 to August 2, 2009.

Qualification:

  • Filipino citizen
  • have been actively involved in local community projects aimed for social change
  • between 18 and 27 years of age
  • of good moral character
  • need not be fluent in English but must be able to communicate reasonably well
  • physically and mentally fit to travel
  • preferably a first time traveler; former recipients of NYC funded international programs from August 2, 2008 to August 2, 2009 are disqualified to apply
  • must have a valid passport until at least six (6) months after the date of the departure for the program

Applicants without any passport details shall not be considered.

Accommodation:

It differs by each field but follows basic camp life with common room for sleeping and eating. Participants will cook for themselves.

Participation and Transportation Fee:

A participation fee of US$250 must be paid upon registration. The fee covers the cost of accommodations and meals. Please note that the fee does not include transportation cost to the meeting point for each field. Participants must also shoulder their roundtrip airfare.
