16th International Postage Stamp Design Contest

Background
Korea Post is organizing the 16th International Postage Stamp Design Contest, which has two (2) categories: Youth Category with the theme “Family” and General Category with the theme “Preserve the Polar Regions and Glaciers”.
Two grand prize winning designs and two awards of excellence will be issued as postage stamps in 2011.

Eligibility
          Youth Category: those 17 years of age and under
          General Category: no restrictions

Submission Guidelines

  • Number of entries to be submitted   : No Limit
  • Size of Design : 15 cm (width) x 20 cm (length) or 20cm (width) x 15  cm (length)
  • On A4-sized hardboard, attached the entry work in the front and the application form at the back. Entries may be submitted in person or by registered mail.
  • Only works (including computer graphics) that have not been submitted to other countries shall be accepted and the original copy must be submitted. Works done manually shall be preferred during the screening.
  • There are no restrictions in the range of materials and colors used in the works but three-dimensional works will not be accepted.
  • The design shall not incorporate postage stamp names (themes, subtitles) or the number representing the denomination or year of issue.
  • Distribution of application forms: available at post offices nationwide from July 5 to September 17, 2010 or download at www.koreastamp.go.kr and www.koreapost.go.kr
  • Application period: July 5 to September 17, 2010. For overseas participants, only those works that arrived by September 30 will be eligible.

Screening of Entries and Announcement of Winners 

  • Screening Period: October 2010
  • Winning entries will be announced on the web page and by individual notification on October 22, 2010.

 

Prizes
         Awarding ceremony will be held during November or December 2010.

Youth Category
Grand prize: (1 winner) Certificate of Merit; KRW2,000,000 and prize awarded by Universal Postal Union (UPU)
Award of Excellence: (1 winner) Certificate of Merit; KRW1,000,000 and prize awarded by Universal Postal Union (UPU)
Honorable Mention: (2 winners) Certificate of Merit; KRW 500,000
Special Award: (10 winners) Certificate of Merit; KRW 300,000
Award for the Guidance Teacher: (4 winners) Certificate of Merit; and prizes amounting to KRW 300,000; these works will be selected in consideration of the participation of concerned school or educational institutions.

General Category
Grand prize: (1 winner) Certificate of Merit; KRW3,000,000 and prize awarded by Universal Postal Union (UPU)
Award of Excellence: (1 winner) Certificate of Merit; KRW2,000,000 and prize awarded by Universal Postal Union (UPU)
Honorable Mention: (2 winners) Certificate of Merit; KRW1,000,000
Special Award: (5 winners) Certificate of Merit; KRW 500,000

Other information
          All submitted entries will not be returned. Korea Post shall retain all rights pertinent to the prize-winning designs. If the prize-winning works are deemed inappropriate designs for stamps, they may not be issued as stamps. Prize-winning designs may be modified or trimmed as necessary at the discretion of Korea Post. If prize-winning work is confirmed to be a product of plagiarism, any prize award will be considered null and void, any prize money paid will be refunded and the prize winner will be prosecuted according to related law.
